My Favourite Award
It has a history.

'Goat' started as an inside joke among the members of my writers group and derives from the Aurealis Awards, listing member Kain Massin's ABC Prize-Winning Novel "A God for the Killing" as "A Goat for the Killing".
"A Goat for the Killing" sounded like a title worthy of its own story. Writing to the title I set the story in the world of my novel trilogy The Restoration Legends, one of a series of five written specifically for my quaterly submission to the Writers of the Future contest.

I submitted 'Goat' in 2017 for Q4 as "Sacrifice". Using the 'joke' title was frankly, taking the joke too far. The story did not rate a mention.

It wasn't until WotF's contest administrator, Joni Labaqui, pointed out stories could be re-submitted that I decided to give the 'Goat' another run, this time under its original title, with the delightful result you see here.
